Apple October 13 Event: HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K Announced

Five Apple HomeView smart displays in a row, showing a clock, a FaceTime call, a photo, thermostat controls and music

Apple made its smart home push official on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. It announced four things: HomeView, a new smart display with a 7-inch screen; HomePod mini 2; a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K; and Apple Home Collection, a range of cameras, locks and thermostats made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

Every price and date below comes from Apple's own Newsroom releases.

Apple HomeView

HomeView is Apple's first smart display, and the product most people were waiting for. It is a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen that does music, FaceTime, photos, timers and smart home control, with Siri AI at the center.

There are two versions, both $299 in the US:

  • Tabletop HomeView. The screen sits on a stainless steel hinge above a domed speaker base, so you can tilt it to suit the counter or table. It comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray, each with a color-matched USB-C cable.
  • Wall-mounted HomeView. The same screen and features in space gray or silver, fixed to the wall with a Schneider Home mount. The mounts are extra: the USB-C wall connector starts at $59.95, the AC wired mount at $79.95, and a PoE wired mount at $129.95 arrives in early 2027.

What it does:

  • Knows who is in front of it. It recognizes up to six people by face and gives each one their own Home Screen. Personal content such as your calendar, messages and reminders only shows when it recognizes you and your iPhone or iPad is nearby and recently unlocked.
  • Smart home control by touch or voice for lights, locks, blinds, thermostats and cameras, with up to nine live camera feeds on one screen. It also listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends an alert.
  • Kitchen help. It turns a web recipe into step-by-step instructions, with hands-free timers.
  • Calls and audio. FaceTime with Center Stage, Intercom to other Apple devices, Apple Music, Podcasts and multiroom audio with HomePod.
  • Hardware. An A18 chip, a display that dims from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, and Spatial Audio from two drivers in the screen plus a woofer and two passive radiators in the base.

Siri AI on HomeView is labelled beta, in HomeView software 27.2. Setup needs a compatible iPhone or iPad on the latest software.

Pre-orders opened October 13 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India and New Zealand. Singapore opens on October 15, and South Africa sells through Apple Authorized Resellers. HomeView reaches all of them on Friday, November 13. It is not on sale in the EU, because Siri AI is not available in iOS there yet.

HomePod mini 2

The first HomePod mini came out in 2020, so this is its first real update. The design stays round, but it gets Apple's S10 chip and five colors: pink, green, blue, white and midnight.

  • Price: $149 in the US, up $20 from the original's $129.
  • Release: pre-orders opened October 13 in the US and more than 23 other countries and regions. It goes on sale Friday, October 30.
  • Siri AI is not there on day one. Apple says it arrives in a future free software update.
  • Sound Glow. The top lights up and pulses with the bass and treble.
  • Mac speaker. It can be the default speaker for a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later.
  • Smart home. Voice control for locks, lights, blinds and thermostats, and the same smoke and CO alarm alerts as HomeView.

Apple TV 4K (4th Generation)

The new Apple TV 4K keeps the familiar box but moves to the A19 chip. Apple says that is up to 50% faster on the CPU and up to 2x faster on graphics than the last model. It also adds an AV1 decoder, so streams use less bandwidth.

  • Price: $299 in the US. Apple lists one price and no storage options. The previous model started at $199.
  • Release: pre-orders opened October 13. It goes on sale Friday, November 13 in the US and 29 other countries and regions.
  • Hands-free Siri. Three far-field microphones let you say "Siri" while something is playing, and Siri AI runs full screen on the TV. It is in beta on tvOS 27.2, and also works on older Apple TV 4K models from the 2nd generation on.
  • Lost remote help. The Siri Remote now works with Find My and can play a sound. Precision Finding needs the new remote and a recent iPhone.
  • Smart home hub. It controls accessories and scenes and shows doorbell alerts on the TV.

The biggest new trick is surround sound. Pair the new Apple TV 4K with four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers, in matching front and rear pairs, and it calibrates them to the room on its own.

Apple Home Collection

Apple also announced its own range of smart home accessories, built with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Everything sets up with one tap on an iPhone and runs in the Home app, with no extra app or account. They need a home hub (HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K) for some features.

Siri AI: Where and When

Siri AI is the thread running through all of this, but it has limits at launch:

  • Language and countries: English only, in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa. Apple says Canadian French comes in a free update.
  • Beta: on HomeView and Apple TV 4K it is labelled beta. On HomePod mini 2 it is not there at all until a later update.
  • Your iPhone matters. Personal features (your calendar, messages and so on) need an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad with Siri AI turned on. Without one you still get general knowledge, conversation and music discovery.
  • Usage limits. Apple says some server-side features have daily limits, and it plans to charge for expanded access later.
  • Not in the EU for now.

No New Macs on October 13 (They Came Two Weeks Later)

Apple did not announce any Macs or iPads on October 13. They arrived two weeks later, by press release and at a separate event:

  • October 26: a new iPad mini, the first with an OLED screen. It has an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR display (up to 1,200 nits peak), the A20 Pro chip, IP67 water and dust resistance, 128GB of storage and Apple Pencil Pro support, in midnight and starlight. $699 for Wi-Fi, $849 with cellular.
  • October 27: a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 ($1,999, replacing the base M5 model) and a 24-inch iMac with M6. The iMac keeps its 24-inch 4.5K display and seven colors, and adds Wi-Fi 7. $1,499 with a 10-core CPU and GPU, $1,699 with a 12-core CPU and GPU (which adds the nano-texture option and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet).
  • October 28: the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, Apple's first OLED and first touchscreen Mac, in 14-inch ($2,899) and 16-inch ($3,399) sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max.

All of them are on pre-order now and arrive November 6. Our MacBook buying guide now ranks the new MacBook Pro models against the rest of the lineup.
