GTA 6 Leaks: What Is Real, What Is AI Fake, and What Is Malware

Real gameplay clips from Grand Theft Auto VI leaked in August 2026, per August reports, with a further batch reported on October 8, 2026, but no playable build has been released or verified. On August 26, 2026, Rockstar Games publicly acknowledged the leaked gameplay, calling it "heartbreaking for our team", and Take-Two Interactive has pursued the leaker through federal court subpoenas.

Whenever GTA 6 leaks trend on social platforms or leak reddit communities, players ask one question: is it real? While a few early test clips are genuine, most circulating footage consists of AI-generated fakes, and every downloadable build is malware.

What Actually Leaked in 2026

When it started

The 2026 leaks began on August 18, 2026, when Cyberleek began posting unreleased gameplay. Per August reports, clips continued through August 25, 2026, totaling roughly 17 minutes.

The two clips outlets trust

Outlets widely cite two genuine clips:

  • Jason playing basketball: Jason shooting hoops outside his house.
  • Car crash and fight: A Vice City collision escalating into an NPC fistfight.

Both clips showed internal debug interfaces: a fuel gauge, a combat endurance bar, and a six-star wanted level. An August 21, 2026 report said the leak preceded Rockstar's official Netflix Extended Look on August 27, 2026, adding that AI fakes copied the basketball scene.

Cyberleek's stated motive

Cyberleek claimed the leaks protested digital pre-orders, demanding an apology and policy changes, but that remains the leaker's claim alone. No source code or playable build leaked in 2026; material consisted strictly of clips.

October 2026: more footage, a build threat, then a stop

After more than a month of silence, a new batch of footage was posted on October 8, 2026. VICE reported it the same day as about 24 minutes of gameplay, credited to the Cyberleek persona, reportedly showing dirt bike racing, hiking, car customisation and Jason and Lucia nude, and noted it "could be from an older build of the game." Other October reports put the runtime at about 25 minutes. Rockstar has not commented on this batch, and no outlet has verified it as authentic or final.

What followed is reported from the leaker's own posts, so treat it as claims:

  • The build threat: Around October 12, 2026, Cyberleek threatened to release a full playable build if a GTA-themed memecoin reached a $30 million market cap, per mid-October reports. The coin fell well short.
  • The stop: On October 14, 2026, Cyberleek announced that the leaks were stopping and that the build would not be released, and its website went offline, per October 14 to 15 reports.
  • What it means: No playable build has been released or verified. Earlier takedowns were followed by new mirrors and channels within days, so a "stop" announcement is not a guarantee.

Never buy a memecoin, token or "unlock" tied to a GTA 6 leak. Kaspersky flagged a GTA VI-themed coin promising game access as a likely pump-and-dump scheme on October 6, 2026.

What Take-Two Has Done About It

Rockstar's statement

On August 26, 2026, the day before the Extended Look, Rockstar posted a statement on Instagram, reported in August 2026. It called the leaked gameplay videos "heartbreaking for our team", said this is "obviously not how we intended for you to see the game", and warned that spoilers may now affect the intended experience. Rockstar also said the game is "nearly there" and asked fans to wait until November 19. One report described it as the first time Rockstar publicly acknowledged the clips as legitimate. As of November 4, 2026, Rockstar has made no further public statement on the leaks, and its Newswire posts since (including the October 15 Launch Trailer and the November 3 pre-load notice) do not mention them.

Take-Two also acted through the courts. Variety reported that Take-Two filed a subpoena in the Southern District of New York on August 20, 2026, tied to DMCA takedowns.

Subpoenas to Microsoft, Discord, X and Google

The filing asked Microsoft and Discord to identify Cyberleek. One report said the subpoena requested Discord IDs, emails, IP logs, and linked accounts, setting a September 4, 2026 deadline. Some commentators noted that these DMCA actions offer a strong signal the clips are genuine.

According to Mashable via Yahoo, Take-Two asked the court on August 21, 2026 for further subpoenas against X Corp and Google. The X subpoena covers the account @cyberleek_ar_io. The Google subpoena lists the personas CyberLeeks, Surfer24k and CyberLeek_ar_io, and YouTube complied with the takedown request. Cyberleek kept posting new footage and map images afterward.

Compared with 2022

In contrast to September 2022, when Rockstar confirmed a breach and said it was "extremely disappointed" (reported by Variety in September 2022), in 2026 Rockstar issued a shorter statement acknowledging the leaked videos, without describing a breach, while Take-Two handled enforcement through the courts.

How to Spot an AI Fake

Generative AI has made fake gameplay videos common. Reports described widespread AI disinformation around GTA 6, with creators fabricating footage for engagement.

Where fakes spread

An August 21, 2026 report said X is the main vector for fake clips, including an AI video of Lucia at a theme park. The same report noted YouTube channels use AI clips to chase views while avoiding copyright strikes triggered by real footage.

Five tells of an AI fake

Community guides, including an August 19, 2026 guide and several blogs, identify common tells:

  1. Short duration: Most fakes last only 5 to 15 seconds due to AI generation limits.
  2. Unstable HUD elements: Fakes display wobbling text, nonsensical signs, and flickering speedometer dials.
  3. Minimap mismatch: The minimap drifts out of sync with turns rather than tracking streets accurately.
  4. Morphing geometry: Characters suffer from blending glitches, like hands fusing into steering wheels or cars melting into asphalt.
  5. Generic audio: Fake clips lack Rockstar's layered audio, relying on generic stock effects or music.

Leak Downloads Are Malware

Any site claiming to offer a playable GTA 6 build, crack, or early access demo delivers malware or takes your money. Rockstar runs no public betas, and no playable build has been released or verified. Kaspersky said on October 6, 2026 that it knows of no legitimate way to get early access to GTA VI.

What fake sites deliver

Malwarebytes reported on August 24, 2026 that lookalike sites offering a GTA 6 demo delivered gta6_installer.exe (1.1 MB), a Vidar infostealer. It steals saved passwords, browser history, and session cookies capable of bypassing two-factor authentication. In another case reported in August 2026, an alleged 113 GB leaked ISO was 99.99 percent empty zeroes with 50 KB of malware embedded.

Copycat "CyberLeek" sites

Kaspersky's October 6, 2026 report found sites borrowing the CyberLeek name to sell an "early build" for $1,000 or 24-hour demo access for $100, plus a crowdfunding page whose target kept rising, all paid in cryptocurrency only. The real leaker has never sold a working build, so these are scams on top of a leak.

Launch week: pre-load is the new bait

Rockstar's November 3, 2026 Newswire post confirms digital pre-load starts on November 10 (midnight local time on PS5, 12 a.m. GMT globally on Xbox), with code-in-box copies at retailers from November 12 and a pre-load of up to 212 GB. GTA 6 is a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game only, so:

  • The only real pre-load is the download from your console's own store, after a purchase.
  • A "pre-load file", "unlocker", ISO or torrent offered on a website, Discord or Telegram is fake.
  • Launch-week spoilers and "full story" leaks are a common lure for fake download links. Do not click through.

Real leaks are video only

Security coverage in August 2026 stressed that real leaks are video only. Our guide to fake GTA 6 download scams breaks down these threats. For verified purchase channels, consult our GTA 6 release date and editions guide.

The 2022 Hack in Short

In September 2022, about 90 in-development clips and source code claims were posted to a forum by Arion Kurtaj of the Lapsus$ group, who breached Rockstar's internal messaging while on bail using a Fire TV Stick, hotel TV, and phone. Following attacks on Rockstar, Uber, and Nvidia, Kurtaj was sentenced in December 2023 to an indefinite hospital order in a secure hospital until judged no longer a risk, according to CBS News. No evidence connects Kurtaj or the 2022 hack to the 2026 Cyberleek leak.

What Is Still Unverified

Several claims surrounding the 2026 leaks remain unverified:

  • Cyberleek's identity: Whether the leaker is an insider, contractor, or outsider is unknown. No arrest or identification had been reported as of November 4, 2026.
  • The October 8 batch: Whether it is authentic, and from which build, is unverified.
  • Footage volume: While reports put it at roughly 17 minutes, only specific clips are corroborated.
  • Builds and code: No credible outlet has verified a released build or source code. Some coverage speculates Cyberleek may have a playable version, which is unconfirmed. Unofficial map images have circulated but are not an official map.
  • Rockstar's wording: Rockstar acknowledged the leaks on August 26, 2026 but has not itemized which clips are authentic.
  • Subpoena results: Records returned by Microsoft, Discord, X or Google remain undisclosed.

Community leak wikis circulate rumors, but players should look to official updates like the GTA 6 launch event for confirmed information. For confirmed dates, pre-load times and editions, see our GTA 6 release date and editions guide.

FAQs

Are there GTA 6 leaks?
Yes. Genuine early development clips leaked in August 2026 via an online persona named Cyberleek, following the 2022 leak. The authentic 2026 leaks are video clips, not a released playable build. Rockstar acknowledged them on August 26, 2026.
