Grand Theft Auto VI releases worldwide on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are live across digital storefronts and physical retailers, starting at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the digital-only Ultimate Edition.
The launch is 15 days away, and Rockstar has now settled the launch-week schedule: digital pre-load opens November 10, boxed copies arrive November 12, and the game unlocks at local midnight on November 19. Hands-off previews and technical breakdowns have also revealed changes to vehicle refueling, police AI, and console performance targets. Here is everything confirmed so far, what remains unannounced, and how to prepare for launch day.
Release Date and Regional Unlock Times
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings set a rolling release at local midnight, so the game unlocks region by region rather than at one global moment (both stores checked November 4, 2026).
New Zealand unlocks first at 11:00 UTC on November 18, while Mexico, the latest region we checked, unlocks at 06:00 UTC on November 19. The US listings show one time for the whole country: midnight Eastern (05:00 UTC), which gives West Coast players a 9:00pm Pacific start on November 18. Xbox players can use the New Zealand console region trick to start early, per a September 7, 2026 report, whereas PlayStation unlocks remain tied to your account region. Compare every regional window in our GTA 6 release time by timezone guide, and see how the date got here in our GTA 6 release date history.
Not on PS4 or Xbox One
Searches for a GTA 6 release date on PS4 or Xbox One come up empty because those consoles are not supported. Rockstar lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no last-generation version has been announced as of November 4, 2026. If you still play on a PS4 or Xbox One, the only way to play GTA 6 at launch is to upgrade to a current console.
Trailer Status
Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer on October 15, 2026, after the Extended Look from late August 2026, which was captured in-engine on a base PS5. Rockstar has not announced any further trailer before launch, so treat any new "trailer date" you see as a guess until Rockstar posts it on its own channels.
Editions, Pricing, and Pre-Order Bonuses
The cost of GTA 6 depends on the edition, and the only places to buy it are the Rockstar store and the PlayStation and Xbox storefronts, plus authorized retailers for the boxed Standard copy. Skip key resellers and unofficial download sites, which is where the scams in the section below start. Take-Two confirmed two editions: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, per Variety, June 24, 2026. Forbes reported that same day that no Deluxe or Collector's game tiers exist. The PlayStation Store lists £69.99 and £89.99 in the UK, €79.99 and €99.99 in Germany and France, and Rs 5,999 and Rs 7,499 in India (checked November 4, 2026).
Rockstar's store does sell a $399.99 "Vice City Collection" collector's box, but it is merchandise only: the game is sold separately.
Both editions include the full base game. Ultimate adds vehicles, weapons, and apparel threaded through Jason and Lucia's story, including the '95 Grotti Cheetah and access to the Rideout Customs mod shop, per the store listings. The Rockstar Store gives the Vintage Vice City Pack to orders placed before November 20, 2026. On the PlayStation Store, any digital pre-order or purchase by November 19, 2026 adds the pack and one month of GTA+ (claim by March 31, 2027, auto-renews); the Microsoft Store has the same offer for purchases before the end of November 19, with GTA+ redeemable within 180 days. Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time. The Microsoft Store lists it at $20.00 (as of November 4, 2026); PlayStation has not opened the upgrade for pre-order yet. See our GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate comparison.
Physical Edition: Download Code in a Box
The boxed GTA 6 Standard Edition contains a digital download code rather than an optical disc. Rockstar's store describes it as a Code-in-Box version with "a download code inside the box," and a June 24, 2026 report confirmed that this applies equally to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No disc edition exists for either console.
There is no physical Ultimate Edition, as Rockstar designated the $99.99 tier as digital only. Boxed Standard copies reach retailers from November 12, 2026, two days after digital pre-load opens, and the Rockstar Store lists November 12 as its estimated ship date. The Vintage Vice City Pack is included in physical boxes only while supplies last, and boxed codes omit the free month of GTA+ that comes with digital store purchases, per an August 9, 2026 report. As of November 4, 2026, Rockstar has announced no later disc release. For complete packaging details, read our GTA 6 physical edition guide.
GTA 6 console bundles and the best price
There is no official GTA 6 console bundle from Sony or Microsoft as of November 4, 2026. PlayStation Blog's GTA VI posts cover the marketing partnership, the pre-download and two Limited-Edition DualSense controllers, but no PS5 bundle. The Black and White controllers carry a recommended price of $84.99, £74.99 or €84.99 and release November 19, with the Black one sold only through PlayStation Direct where Direct operates. Xbox Wire has announced no GTA 6 hardware, and the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition is a 25th anniversary console, not a GTA 6 edition.
UK carriers sell their own pairings, which are finance plans rather than Sony or Microsoft bundles. O2 announced PS5 Disc and Digital consoles with GTA VI on October 22 at £644.99 and £595.99 RRP, on 0% finance over 36 months. EE lists an Xbox Series X25 with a digital copy of GTA VI at £827, out of stock when we checked.
The game itself costs the same almost everywhere, so the best price is mostly about where the bonuses land, which our editions and pre-order bonuses section covers. Prices as of November 4, 2026:
| Store | Edition | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockstar Store | Standard, Code-in-Box | $79.99 | Estimated to ship November 12 |
| Microsoft Store | Standard / Ultimate, digital | $79.99 / $99.99 | Ultimate Edition Upgrade listed at $20.00 |
| PlayStation Store | Standard / Ultimate, digital | $79.99 / $99.99 | Upgrade not yet available to pre-order |
| Target | Standard, Code-in-Box (PS5) | $79.99 | Delivers November 12; US and Canada PlayStation accounts only |
| Target | DualSense GTA VI White Limited Edition | $84.99 | Street date November 19 |
| EE | Standard, code in box (PS5) | £68 | £13 upfront then £5 a month for 11 months, EE customers only |
None of these stores showed a discount below the standard price today. Black Friday falls on November 27, eight days after launch, and retailer deals on the game or consoles may appear around then. We will update this section if they do.
Pre-Load Schedule, Storage Demands, and the Refund Trap
Digital pre-load begins November 10, 2026, nine days before launch, per Rockstar's November 3 Newswire post. On PS5 it starts at midnight local time in each region. On Xbox Series X|S it starts at 12am GMT for everyone, which is 7pm ET and 4pm PT on November 9. Boxed codes join from November 12.
Rockstar's November 3 post puts the space needed at up to 212GB depending on the console. That replaces the earlier guesswork of 130 to 250GB. Plan for the full 212GB plus headroom for a day-one patch, whose size is not published. An internal SSD or approved expansion storage is required to play current-generation games, so an external hard drive is only useful for moving other games out of the way. Crucially, PlayStation's cancellation policy says your right to cancel a digital pre-order only applies if you have not started downloading the game, "including pre-loading before release." If you are undecided, disable automatic downloads before November 10. Read our GTA 6 pre-load size and refund guide.
GTA 6 on PC: What Take-Two Has Said and Expected Timelines
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two has announced no PC edition, and there is no Steam page, Epic Games Store listing, or PC pre-order available as of November 4, 2026.
At Take-Two's annual general meeting on September 17, 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the PC platform is "becoming more and more important to our company over time," per the meeting transcript. Zelnick previously told Bloomberg in May 2026 that Rockstar prioritizes console to serve its core audience, while noting PC can generate 45 to 50 percent of sales and hits reach all platforms over time, per a May 4, 2026 report. Historically, GTA V took 19 months to arrive on PC, while Red Dead Redemption 2 took 12.5 months. Some outlets projected on September 15, 2026 that a PC release could land between late 2027 and late 2028. A Corsair claim of early 2026 was quickly retracted. Read our GTA 6 on PC release date guide.
GTA 6 Online and Multiplayer Status
Grand Theft Auto VI is strictly a single-player game on November 19, 2026. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings both state that "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience," and Take-Two said at its annual general meeting on September 17, 2026 that there is "no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch." Take-Two also said that GTA Online for GTA V continues to perform robustly and will receive continued support, per a September 18, 2026 report.
Multiplayer speculation surged after Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg on September 17, 2026 that he anticipates multiplayer "next year" following conversations with Rockstar. However, a September 18, 2026 report said that Clancy was offering an educated guess rather than an official date. Court documents from an Edinburgh employment tribunal reported on September 10, 2026 referenced an in-development 32-player format as a guarded secret, reflecting testing parameters rather than a final lobby size. Read our report on the GTA 6 Online release status.
Performance Targets: 30fps and the PS5 Pro Reality
GTA 6 targets 30 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told creators in August 2026 that the game "for now, is 30 FPS" on consoles and that he would need to consult the technical team regarding any 60fps mode, per an August 27, 2026 report. Another report on August 28, 2026 said that this target applies across PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
One technical analysis of the Extended Look footage captured on a base PS5 at roughly 2560x1440 resolution found a well-paced 30fps output. It concluded that a 60fps mode is extremely unlikely on current hardware because the game is CPU bound, with dense simulation systems tuned around a 33.3ms budget, per an August 28, 2026 report. The PlayStation Store lists the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but Rockstar has not said what that adds, and the Pro CPU is only roughly seven percent faster. Read our GTA 6 30fps and PS5 Pro breakdown, and if you are shopping for a console, see why the PS5 Pro is sold out before GTA 6.
Vehicle Refueling and Gas Station Systems
Driving in GTA 6 incorporates vehicle refueling and electric vehicle charging. Creator preview sessions reported on September 3, 2026 revealed that roadside gas stations let players choose between repairing their vehicle, refueling gas tanks, or recharging electric batteries, with animations running roughly 10 seconds.
Rob Nelson of Rockstar North addressed player debates during a creator session covered in a September 3, 2026 report, remarking: "We'll see what people say. Do you think people are going to like it?" Nelson added: "Hey, that's pretty fast for a fill-up. You can't complain about that." The fuel gauge first appeared in leaked Cyberleek clips in August 2026, described in an August 19, 2026 report as a depleting meter on the dashboard, before resurfacing in recent preview builds. Pairing refueling with repairs ensures pit stops offer gameplay utility. Read our complete GTA 6 refueling system guide.
Hidden Gameplay Mechanics You Might Miss
Hands-off preview demonstrations have revealed several realistic simulation layers beneath the surface. An August 27, 2026 report said GTA 6 features a cash-gated story structure, requiring players to raise specific capital through car theft, store hold-ups, robberies, and fences before main story missions continue.
Character physical care directly alters appearance. A report on August 26, 2026, citing a Dazed preview, said that skipping sleep produces visible dark circles on Jason and Lucia's faces, while eating and exercise change body shape. The wanted system has been rebuilt: crimes must be witnessed by an NPC or trigger an alarm before police respond, per the same previews. Hollow stars indicate a vague suspect description, and law enforcement tracks faces, clothing, vehicles, and couple status. Shaking police requires changing outfits. Six-star wanted levels return after GTA 5 capped at five, per an August 27, 2026 report. Previews also confirm no full first-person mode, per a September 4, 2026 report. Read our full feature on GTA 6 mechanics you might miss.
How long is GTA 6?
Rockstar has not published an official mission count or completion time for GTA 6. The only figure from the studio is one developer's playthrough: Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told The New York Times, in an August 27, 2026 feature, that his run took about 80 hours. That run covered the main story plus "optional goals with narrative ramifications," so it is neither a story-only time nor a 100 percent completion, and it was played during development, before the game was finished.
For scale, completion-time trackers commonly put GTA 5's main story at roughly 30 to 32 hours and Red Dead Redemption 2's at roughly 50 hours, with full completion taking far longer in both. If Nelson's number holds, GTA 6 would be one of Rockstar's longest story campaigns. Your own time will depend on how much side content you take on, and the cash-gated story structure described in previews may add hours between missions.
We will update this section with real completion times after launch on November 19.
Fake Downloads, Malware Campaigns, and Pre-Order Scams
Global anticipation for GTA 6 has fueled widespread malware distribution. Security firms have documented dangerous malware campaigns disguised as game installers, cracked builds, and early access tokens.
Malwarebytes reported on June 23, 2026 that early access scams charged around $250 in cryptocurrency and delivered nothing. In August 2026, Malwarebytes detected fake demo sites distributing the Vidar infostealer inside gta6_installer.exe. On September 1, 2026, researchers uncovered leaked-copy sites deploying automated crypto wallet drainers. Crucially, Huntress analyzed a fake 113GB ISO file on September 10, 2026, finding NJRAT, DCRAT, Mercurial Grabber, and Chaos ransomware acting as a destructive disk wiper. NordVPN identified fake beta keys, Android adware, and hundreds of phishing pages targeting Social Club credentials, per Mashable. Legitimate pre-orders exist exclusively on official console stores, the Rockstar Store, and authorized retailers at $79.99 or $99.99. With pre-load opening on November 10, expect "early download" scams to spike: the only real pre-load is the one in your console's store. Protect yourself with our fake GTA 6 download scams guide.
Map, Characters and Leaks
Three other questions come up constantly. Rockstar has not published an official map, and our GTA 6 map guide separates the named Leonida regions from unofficial size claims. Rockstar's protagonists are Jason and Lucia, and our GTA 6 characters guide covers the official bios and the voice cast that is still unconfirmed. Real gameplay clips did leak in August 2026, per reports, but no playable build has, so read what is real, fake or malware in the GTA 6 leaks before you click anything.
Preparing for Launch Week
Preparing early avoids launch-night delays. Free at least 212GB of internal SSD or approved expansion storage before pre-load begins on November 10, plus room for a day-one patch. Boxed retail codes arrive from November 12. If you are undecided on PlayStation, turn off auto-downloads to keep your cancellation option until you decide.
Two more dates are worth watching: Take-Two reports its July to September quarter results after the market closes on November 9, 2026, and the game unlocks at local midnight on November 19, when Rockstar adds a free printable cover-art poster and Leonida map to its official site. Follow our GTA 6 launch hub as we track every milestone toward Vice City.

Take-Two and Rockstar have not announced a PC version or release date as of November 4, 2026. Looking at previous Rockstar console-to-PC release gaps for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, outlets project an estimated PC release window between late 2027 and late 2028.
Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro?
No 60fps mode is announced. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said GTA 6 targets 30fps on consoles, and a technical analysis found the game is CPU bound and concluded that 60fps is extremely unlikely on current hardware. The game is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but the Pro's roughly seven percent CPU speed increase is not enough for 60fps.
